PRIMARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The Primary School Curriculum outlines the contents of children’s learning. It includes the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of children’s learning for the first eight years of school, from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The curriculum aims to:

  • Develop each child’s potential to the full

  • Encourage a love of learning

  • Help children develop skills they will use all their lives

 

The Curriculum areas that are presented in Our Lady of Hope:

  • Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE): History, Geography and Science

  • Arts Education: Visual Arts, Music and Drama

  • Physical Education

  • Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE)

ÁISTEAR

Áistear is the early childhood curriculum framework for children from birth up to the age of six years. Early childhood marks the beginning of children’s lifelong learning journeys. Ireland's early childhood curriculum framework is called Áistear (Irish word for journey).

​

Áistear provides information to assist practitioners, including infant teachers and Early Start teachers, in planning and providing enjoyable and appropriately challenging learning experiences that afford children the opportunity to grow and develop as competent and confident learners within caring relationships with others.
